Connecting Research, Innovation and Healthcare: the National Center at Meet in Italy for Life Sciences 2026

15 October 2026, Rome – The National Center took part in Meet in Italy for Life Sciences 2026, held on 13–14 October at the Auditorium della Tecnica in Rome. The tenth edition of the event, promoted by the National Technological Cluster ALISEI (Advanced LIfe SciEnces in Italy), brought together more than 800 experts, researchers and institutional representatives from over 30 countries. More than 80 speakers contributed to a program of over 20 panels and talks.

Established by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) in 2013, ALISEI is Italy’s official National Technological Cluster for Life Sciences. Meet in Italy serves as a national platform for dialogue and collaboration across the life-sciences ecosystem, connecting research, healthcare, industry, public institutions and the investment community. This year’s program addressed topics ranging from advanced therapies and technology transfer to healthcare innovation, public-private partnerships and Italy’s international competitiveness.

The National Center participated through its institutional leadership, with President Rosario Rizzuto contributing to the conference program and Director Elena Quagliato taking part in dedicated networking and matchmaking activities to explore potential opportunities for collaboration.

Rosario Rizzuto on research, innovation and advanced therapies

On 14 October, President Rizzuto participated in the Health Future Conference: Building Italy’s Health System for the Next Decade, in the session Research and Innovation: Generating Responses to Emerging Needs, from Technology Transfer to Advanced Therapies.

The session, moderated by journalist Silvia Alparone, addressed the role of research and innovation in responding to emerging healthcare needs, highlighting the importance of connecting scientific advances with technology transfer and the development of new therapeutic approaches.

These themes reflect a central challenge for the life sciences sector: helping scientific discoveries progress towards applications that benefit patients while strengthening collaboration among research institutions, healthcare organizations and industry.

Exploring new opportunities through matchmaking

As part of the event, General Director Elena Quagliato participated in the B2B & B2R Meetings Brokerage Event: Turn Contacts into Contracts, a matchmaking initiative designed to connect participants with potential partners through targeted individual meetings. The brokerage platform recorded 486 registered participants, while the CNR managed more than 500 B2B appointments as part of the event’s networking program.

Quagliato’s participation provided an opportunity to explore shared interests, identify complementary expertise and assess possible areas for collaboration. Discussions with stakeholders from across the life sciences value chain offered scope to explore potential synergies in specialized research services, genomic analysis, biological sample management, preclinical and translational research, and the development and valorization of scientific discoveries.

Building connections for the future of life sciences

The National Center’s participation in Meet in Italy for Life Sciences 2026 provided opportunities to engage with stakeholders working to advance research, support technology transfer and develop new therapeutic solutions.

As Italy’s life sciences ecosystem continues to evolve, dialogue among research institutions, healthcare organizations, businesses and investors remains essential to strengthening the path from scientific discovery to innovation.

Events such as Meet in Italy help foster these connections, encouraging the exchange of expertise and perspectives that can support the future development of gene therapy, RNA-based medicines and the wider life sciences sector.
