About the Challenge
In collaboration with Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center, the National Center launched the first edition of the GeneRNAtion Challenge. This call for proposals aims to identify and support the most innovative startups and research projects in the field of RNA technologies and gene therapy.
OBJECTIVE: The call seeks bold teams, visionary researchers, and entrepreneurs capable of transforming scientific discoveries into tangible solutions that improve people’s health and quality of life.

9 January 2026: Call closed
9 February 2026: Communications sent regarding the outcome of the first round of selected candidates
19 February 2026: Virtual interviews held with a panel of experts for startups selected in the first round
20 February 2026: Virtual interviews held with a panel of experts for projects selected in the first round
2 March 2026: Award ceremony in Milan

On Monday 2 March 2026 at 11:00 AM, the GeneRNAtion Awards will take place at the Intesa Sanpaolo Event Space – Gioia 22 Tower in Milan.
Sponsored by the National Center for RNA & Gene Therapy and the Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center, the GeneRNAtion Awards event represents a tangible example of support and recognition for startups distinguished by their development of innovative solutions for personalized care.
During the event, the projects and startups that have successfully passed the selection process will be formally recognized.
The program will open with institutional remarks, followed by presentations from each of the eleven finalists, who will showcase their innovative solutions and outline their potential impact within the biotech sector.
The programme also features a roundtable discussion on the future of the Italian biotech ecosystem in the post-NRRP landscape, offering insights into the evolving dynamics of technology transfer and collaboration between public and private stakeholders. The discussion will bring together representatives from research, government, venture capital, and industry.
The event will conclude with the official award ceremony, recognizing eight winning startups and three GeneRNAtion Challenge projects.
