The National Center at Science4All 2025: Science at the Heart of Society

29 September 2025, Padua – The National Center for Gene Therapy and RNA-Based Drugs played a leading role in L’Agorà delle Scienze, one of the flagship events of Science4All 2025, the festival organized by the University of Padua. Now in its fourth edition, the festival has established itself as a key platform for making science accessible and engaging, blending live demonstrations, multimedia installations, and interactive formats to connect research with society.

L’Agorà delle Scienze: Three Days, Two Complementary Formats

This year’s Agorà delle Scienze unfolded across three days, combining the immediacy of live talks with the creativity of multimedia storytelling:

The Science Marathon
On Friday, 26 September, the Aula Nievo of Palazzo Bo hosted a dynamic three-hour series of speed talks, where researchers presented results from projects funded by the PNRR – Next Generation EU. The program showcased the diversity and vitality of Italy’s scientific ecosystem, featuring initiatives supported through both national and European funding schemes.

The session opened with remarks from Prof. Antonio Parbonetti, Deputy Rector of the University of Padua, followed by Prof. Rosario Rizzuto, President of the National Center, who emphasized the importance of making research results visible to society and the promise of personalized medicine through the integration of scientific discovery and technological innovation.

The Multimedia LED Wall Installation
At the conclusion of the Science Marathon, the festival unveiled a striking LED wall installation in Palazzo Bo’s main exhibition space. From 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM on Saturday, 27 September, and Sunday, 28 September, visitors were immersed in a continuous loop of short video segments (60–70 seconds each). In these clips, researchers addressed the audience in a clear and approachable style, creating an engaging visual experience designed to spark curiosity and make complex research more tangible.

The National Center’s Contribution: Repairing Muscles with RNA
Among the featured videos, the National Center presented a project from Spoke 4 – Metabolic and Cardiovascular Diseases, developed by the research team of Prof. Marco Sandri, titled “Repairing Muscles with RNA.” The video explored innovative strategies to combat sarcopenia, the age-related loss of muscle mass and strength.

Through avatar-based storytelling, the installation explained how RNA, the messenger of life, can be transformed into a therapeutic tool to repair damaged muscle fibers, restore strength, and open new frontiers in personalized medicine.

This contribution reflects the Center’s mission: to transform cutting-edge research in RNA-based therapies and gene therapy into real solutions that improve health and quality of life.

By combining the vibrancy of live presentations with the accessibility of digital media, L’Agorà delle Scienze embodied the spirit of Science4All: opening research to the community, fostering dialogue, and inspiring new ways of thinking about the role of science in society.

As part of the European Researchers’ Night, the event highlighted not only the leadership of Italian institutions in advanced biomedical research but also the collective impact of investments supported by the Ministry of Universities and Research (PNRR, Next Generation EU).
