The Healthy Longevity Symposium: Research, Innovation, and Collaboration for a Longer and Healthier Future

Abu Dhabi, 26 November 2024 – The second edition of the Healthy Longevity Symposium, held from 21 to 22 November at the prestigious Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi, comes to a successful conclusion. As an international meeting point for scientists, physicians, health policy experts, and technological innovators, participants share their commitment to promoting solutions for healthy aging.

The invited speaker, Prof Rosario Rizzuto engaged the audience with his research on the role of mitochondrial inflammation, confirming the value of international collaboration and networking in the longevity sector, while promoting Italian projects. This includes a National Center for Gene Therapy and RNA-based Drugs in Italy, which received funding of over 320 million euros as part of the European Union National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP). The National Center unites 46 public and private institutions of higher education and research centers, sharing the project’s progress drew interest as a successful model for developing global networks.

The symposium underscores the importance of international networking to address the challenges of the aging of the world population, making the most of the opportunities offered by transnational funding and the sharing of scientific resources.

National Center President, Prof Rosario Rizzuto listens in at the Healthy Longevity Symposium

The four main themes of the two-day event include the Mechanism of Aging, Genomics Precision Medicine and Precision Prevention, Advanced Technologies for Healthy Aging, and Social Health Policies. Understanding the Mechanism of Aging offers insight into the physiological changes associated with aging and rejuvenation while discussing the role of clinical, medical, and epidemiological factors in aging and longevity. Discussing Genomics Precision Medicine and Precision Prevention brings clarity to applying genomic data for personalized therapeutic strategies and the ability to predict susceptibility to age-related disease through multi-omics modalities. Sharing Advanced Technologies for Healthy Aging gives the audience a view into predicting health outcomes and personalizing health recommendations using artificial intelligence and opportunities to enhance therapeutic modalities for an aging population through biomedical engineering tools.  Those who manage the health care delivery system know that Social Health Policies greatly affect aging populations and the need to integrate genomics medicine into policymaking.

Not only was this an opportunity to share cutting-edge scientific discoveries but the Healthy Longevity Symposium offered a moment of reflection on the policies needed to translate research into concrete actions.  The National Center was pleased to have Prof Rizzuto in Abu Dhabi to share its goal of promoting innovation, international collaboration, and strategic investments for better health.

The symposium’s success opens new perspectives for cooperation for international partners, consolidating Italy’s role as a leader in scientific research and innovation.
