The National Center at the 2025 Borsa della Ricerca Forum

3 October 2025, Catania – The National Center for Gene Therapy and RNA-based Drugs plays a leading role in the 16th edition of the Borsa della Ricerca Forum, Italy’s premier platform for research and innovation matchmaking.
From 1–3 October 2025, Catania takes the national stage where universities, research centers, companies, startups, investors, and PNRR-funded entities meet to build partnerships, share results, and design new pathways for technological transfer.

With the official inauguration is entrusted to Tommaso Aiello, President of Fondazione Emblema and Coordinator of the Borsa della Ricerca, the Forum opens at the Monastero dei Benedettini with institutional greetings from:

  • Enrico Foti, Rector of the University of Catania
  • Edmondo Tamajo, Councillor for Productive Activities, Sicilian Region
  • Antonio Belcuore, Extraordinary Commissioner, Chamber of Commerce of South East Sicily

The afternoon continues with the “InnoverAI” roundtable, dedicated to AI and innovation policies, with interventions from Dario Cartabellotta (Sicilian Regional Government) and Fabrizio Cobis (MUR).

The National Center participates in a full calendar of CrossRoads, Stories, and one-to-one meetings.

STORIES: RNA & Gene Therapy

Prof. Angela Zampella (Pro-Rector, University of Naples Federico II; President of the Supervisory Board of the National Center) and Elena Quagliato (Managing Director, National Center) take the stage for the Forum’s talk-show format.
Guided by a professional journalist, their “Stories” highlight:

  • the structure and governance of the National Center
  • the vertical and horizontal Spokes and scientific themes
  • collaborations across universities, hospitals, startups, and industry partners
  • the recruitment of 700+ doctoral students and researchers, with 65% women in scientific and leadership roles
  • key scientific results (including the RNA Production Platform in Naples)

One-to-One Meetings

Throughout the day, Prof. Vincenzo Capizzi and Andrea Panaro from the National Center team will meet with startups, companies, and institutional stakeholders. These personalized meetings—arranged via the Forum’s Preview platform—offer concrete opportunities to initiate collaborations, co-develop technologies, and explore investment pathways.

The Forum concludes with further bilateral meetings, the Startup Contest, and the EXPO PNRR, showcasing the excellence of PNRR-funded institutions.
The National Center’s presence underscores its dual role as both a scientific driver—pioneering RNA and gene therapy—and a national hub for innovation and technology transfer.
