Applications Open for the 2026–2027 PharmaTech Academy

4 August 2026, Naples – The University of Naples Federico II and the National Center for Gene Therapy and Drugs based on RNA Technology have launched the call for applications for the fourth edition of PharmaTech Academy, an advanced training program preparing the next generation of professionals in RNA technologies and gene therapy.

The University of Naples Federico II, Department of Pharmacy, in collaboration with the National Center for Gene Therapy and Drugs based on RNA Technology, has officially opened applications for the 2026–2027 PharmaTech Academy.

Now entering its fourth edition, PharmaTech Academy has established itself as one of Italy’s premier advanced training programs for young scientists pursuing careers in RNA-based medicines, gene therapy, and advanced pharmaceutical technologies. Built on a learning-by-doing approach, the program combines academic excellence with hands-on experience, bringing together universities, research institutions, and pharmaceutical companies to prepare highly qualified professionals for one of the fastest-growing sectors in biomedical science.

Following three successful editions that trained nearly 90 young scientists, the Academy continues to provide participants with a multidisciplinary educational experience spanning the entire therapeutic development pipeline—from early-stage research and innovation to manufacturing and industrial translation.

The program combines classroom instruction with practical laboratory training at the National Center’s cutting-edge research infrastructures, immersive extended reality activities, collaborative workshops, and real-world challenges developed with industry partners. Students also complete an industry project with one of the partner companies, gaining direct exposure to the scientific, technical, and professional skills required to translate innovative discoveries into next-generation therapies.

The curriculum is structured around three complementary pillars:

  • Development of professional and transferable skills, including communication, teamwork, leadership, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
  • Advanced scientific training in gene therapy, RNA-based medicines, and RNA therapeutic manufacturing.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience using state-of-the-art technologies, complemented by immersive extended reality learning.

The Academy is open to graduates holding—or expected to obtain by October 31, 2026—a Master’s degree (or equivalent qualification) in eligible disciplines, including biology, biotechnology, pharmacy, medicine, chemistry, veterinary medicine, and biomedical or chemical engineering. Equivalent degrees awarded by international universities are also accepted.

Admission is based on a competitive selection process that includes an evaluation of academic qualifications and a remote interview designed to assess each candidate’s scientific background, motivation, communication skills, and professional potential.

Applications must be submitted by 2:00 p.m. (GMT+1) on September 17, 2026. The selection process will conclude by September 25, and the program will begin on October 19, 2026.
