20 October 2025, Washington, D.C. – Prof Stefano Cosma (University of Modena and Reggio Emilia), Coordinator of the Technical–Financial Committee of the National Center, participated in the Second Edition of the Italy–US Tech Business and Investment Matching Initiative, held on October 16–17, 2025, at the Embassy of Italy in Washington, D.C.

Promoted by the Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in collaboration with the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces and under the patronage of the Embassy of Italy in the United States, the initiative gathered government leaders, corporate executives, investors, and innovation partners to strengthen transatlantic industrial and technological cooperation.

The event opened with remarks by Emanuele Spampinato (Vice President, Transatlantic Harmonic Foundation, and CEO, Harmonic Innovation Group) and Tracey Wingate (Head of ICI Global Affairs, Investment Company Institute), followed by keynote speeches from Senator Adolfo Urso, Italian Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, and Senator Steve Scalise, Majority Leader of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Discussions focused on the latest data on Italian investments in the U.S. and future strategic priorities, including incentives for foreign direct investment, tools for business internationalization, and a roadmap toward the Italy–US Investment Forum 2026.

As part of the program, Prof. Cosma took part in the sectoral panel “Life Sciences, Biotech & Pharma: Innovation and Resilience of Value Chains”, moderated by Augusto Reggiani, Head of the Technical Secretariat of the Italian FDI Committee. The other participating panelists included leaders from Chiesi Farmaceutici, Dompé, Pelagic AI, Juvenescence Labs, Kinzbio, Serina Therapeutics, and JobsOhio.

The panel addressed several key issues shaping the future of the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. It highlighted the need to promote joint research initiatives and transatlantic clinical trials focused on developing vaccines and advanced therapies, thereby strengthening collaboration between Europe and the United States.

Ample space was also devoted to green biotechnology and strategies for making pharmaceutical production more sustainable, with the aim of reducing the industry’s environmental impact. Another crucial issue concerned the need to build resilient supply chains capable of ensuring the continuous availability of active ingredients and medical devices, even during times of crisis.

The panel further explored how the digital transformation of clinical research, driven by artificial intelligence and big data, can accelerate experimental processes and enhance the quality of data analysis. Finally, participants stressed the need for effective incentives to support biotechnology startups and scale-ups, fostering innovation and driving the growth of new enterprises across the sector.

The Initiative also featured the launch of the Transatlantic Venture Platform, presented at the Atlantic Council in partnership with CDP Venture Capital SGR, Italian Tech Alliance, and more than 30 venture capital firms from both countries. This platform aims to catalyze cross-border investments and collaborative projects in strategic sectors such as biotechnology, aerospace, and sustainable technologies.

Prof. Cosma’s participation contributed to promoting the National Center’s mission of advancing innovation in gene therapy and RNA-based technologies, and fostering international collaboration to accelerate the translation of scientific research into tangible health and industrial solutions. His intervention underscored the role of the Center as a strategic player in building resilient and sustainable biomedical value chains through cooperation between Italy and the United States.
