The National Center Champions Collaboration at NanoMed Europe 2025 in Barcelona

Barcelona, Spain 3 June 2025 – The National Center’s collaborative mission is featured at NanoMed Europe 2025 (NME25), taking place in Barcelona, Spain, from May 27–30, 2025. This landmark edition is particularly significant as it marks the 20th anniversary of the European Technology Platform on Nanomedicine (ETPN) by welcoming National Center researchers to celebrate two decades of leadership in advancing nanomedicine across Europe.

Following its official membership in ETPN in 2024, the National Center has solidified its place within an elite European network committed to transforming healthcare through nanotechnology. This affiliation strengthens the National Center’s position within the continental research landscape while underscoring its dedication to interdisciplinary collaboration and translational medicine.

At NME25, the National Center demonstrates the strength of its integrated model through the participation of researchers from several different Spokes, highlighting high-impact projects that exemplify its Hub & Spoke organizational structure.

Fostering a national ecosystem capable of addressing complex biomedical challenges through shared innovation, National Center researchers present pioneering work that spans diagnostics, drug delivery, and next-generation therapeutics:

  • Miriam Colombo (University of Milano–Bicocca, Spoke 8) will introduce biomimetic lipid nanoparticles designed for targeted RNA delivery to cancer cells — a strategy that leverages biological mimicry for enhanced therapeutic precision.
  • Davide Prosperi (University of Milano–Bicocca, Spoke 8) will present research on monoclonal antibodies conjugated to H-Ferritin in 3D tumor models, offering new insights into the development of tumor-penetrating drug delivery systems.
  • Marco Buscaglia (University of Milan, Spoke 5), with Tommaso Bellini (University of Milan, Spoke 9) as last author, will unveil a label-free DNA/RNA microarray biosensor — a breakthrough platform that bridges fast diagnostics with RNA-based drug development.
  • Fabiana Quaglia (University of Naples Federico II, Spoke 8), who also serves as a strategic delegate for the National Center within ETPN, will articulate the Center’s long-term vision for fostering pan-European research alliances.
  • Giovanni Tosi (University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Spoke 1), a leader in targeted therapeutics, will share expertise in the clinical translation of nanomedicine-based drug delivery systems, reinforcing the bridge between lab and clinic.

Set against a vibrant scientific backdrop, NanoMed Europe 2025 offers a premier platform for cross-disciplinary dialogue and translational research. From innovative therapies and nano-enabled devices to advanced diagnostics and in silico technologies, the event exemplifies Europe’s role in spearheading next-generation healthcare solutions.

The National Center’s active presence at NME25 is both a celebration of scientific excellence and a clear indicator of its growing influence in shaping the future of nanomedicine across Europe. As it continues to unify Italy’s brightest minds around shared biomedical goals, its commitment to collaboration will remain central to unlocking nanotechnology’s full potential for human health.
